Welcome! Let me start by saying that I’m so exited to join this dynamic 5th grade team and begin another amazing school year (at the best school in the universe, of course!)
As you’ll soon discover, building a positive classroom community is of upmost importance to me. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and feel so blessed to be on this journey with you all! Inevitably it’ll take some time to get to know each other, but please know that my door is always open and I welcome and encourage open communication. I look forward to seeing many of your familiar faces around campus this year, but for those of you that we’ve yet to meet, here’s a little bit about me:
I was born in New York (Long Island) but spent the majority of my childhood growing up just outside of Toronto, Canada. Ironically enough, my husband is a bigger hockey fan than I am, and luckily, I have neither a thick New York or Canadian accent. Right before college, my family and I moved to New York and I attended a small liberal arts university (Bucknell) in Pennsylvania. At the time, I “thought” I wanted to be a lawyer and triple majored in Economics, Political Science and Pre-Law. However, my true passion at the time was competing for my school’s Division 1 Track and Cross Country teams. Running is a HUGE part of my life and I hope to bring some of my positive experiences of a healthy lifestyle into the classroom. I may even try to persuade some of you to join me for a run around our school track . After graduating from Bucknell in 2006, I spent the following 3 years working in NYC in the finance industry. I soon realized that I really needed to follow my heart and do what I loved – teaching and nurturing young minds. I convinced my better half to move across the country with me to sunny San Diego to attend graduate school for my Masters in Education at Point Loma Nazarene University. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE. I absolutely LOVE being an educator and am so grateful for the last five years of my teaching career. I’ve taught 4th grade for 3 years and spent 2 years teaching K-8 Special Education. In my spare time, I love to travel with my husband Christian, volunteer with the Junior League of San Diego, and enjoy the outdoors with Bella, our little Maltipoo.
I couldn’t be happier to call Camarena my school community and look forward to our journey together this year! Let the deeper learning and many happy memories begin!
